Massachusets Rum producers, Privateer has recently unveiled a trio of seven-year cask releases, each unique, and stand-alone as part of its Distiller’s Drawer series. These are the oldest rums to have been released by the distillery.

The Distiller’s Drawer series is the brainchild of founder and owner Andrew Cabot. When traveling in the Caribbean he met with a distiller who kept a special bottle hidden away in a desk drawer. The bottle represented the distiller’s favorite creation set aside to showcase the best of the best. This experience served as the inspiration for the series which is comprised of rare and stand-out expressions chosen by the team at Privateer.

The latest rums comprising the Distiller’s Drawer collection are #130 Echelon, #131 Fulcrum and #132: Convergence. Each of the rums is unique in flavor profile and creation. However, the trinity of rums are all aged a total of seven years.

#130 Echelon

Echelon is made from Queen’s Share distillate which is produced by redistilling the “seconds”, the transitional blend of rich hearts and bitter tails that follow the tails cut, to extract the remaining hearts. This edition was aged for no less than 7 years in a single, used American oak cask. The rum is a cane-base distilled in both pot and column stills. Echelon is bottled at 62.7% ABV with just 192 bottles available.

#131 Fulcrum

Fulcrum is Privateer’s first 7-year single barrel release matured in new American oak. The rum is comprised of a Grade A Molasses rum distilled in pot and column stills. The rum was chosen for its balance and the representation of the relationship of the distillate, the surrounding climate, and the use of new American oak coming together.  It was bottled at 59.4% with 170 bottles on the market.

#132: Convergence

Convergence is another Queen’s Share distillate aged in an ex-bourbon cask. Privateer’s search for new American oak casks led to them sourcing a handful of high-quality, freshly dumped Bourbon barrels that were used to age and represent how rums are positively influenced by extended aging in whiskey casks. Convergence is a cane-based rum distilled using pot and column stills and bottled at 59.6% ABV.

The full collection is currently only available in bars and liquor stores in the Massachusetts area. For more information on the release visit Privateer’s website.
