A video shared on Twitter shows a monkey downing a bottle of liquor. Apparently, this isn’t the animal’s first incident according to reports. The monkey appears to have developed a taste for alcohol and has stolen alcohol from several different people in the Banda area. Police are now searching for the animal after this video went viral.

The monkey’s alleged thefts included entering people’s houses and stealing bottles of alcohol from bystanders. In the video shared on social media, the monkey appears to be calmly drinking a bottle of Liquor while sitting on a bench paying no mind to people recording it. There have also been reports of the monkey becoming violent and attempting to bite people.

According to Jagran, the forestry department was notified and told to find the alcohol-drinking monkey after many complaints about the animal causing chaos.

Divisional Forest Officer, Sanjay Aggarwal discussed information being received about the monkey that consumed alcohol in the Matoudh area and said, “Its video has also drawn interest. I’ve assembled a squad and given them orders to find him quickly. He will soon be apprehended and released in the forests.”

Animals have a tendency to be attracted to the smell of booze. It is common for elephants to seek out fermenting alcohol in rural parts of India. There have also been reports of crocodiles interrupting picnics and baboons breaking into homes to steal beer and liquor. Even, bears have been known to be attracted to the smell of booze and they will make attempts to break into stores in order to get it. Unfortunately, this can negatively affect animals’ natural behavior and health. It is important to try to keep wild animals from consuming alcohol though it may be difficult if the animal is determined.

The boozy monkey has not yet been apprehended by police and may still be seeking another round.
