In a recent incident aboard the Sampark Kranti Express in India, a 19-year-old passenger, reportedly intoxicated at the time, urinated on an elderly couple traveling in the AC compartment.

The event unfolded within the B3 coach, where the senior citizens occupied adjacent lower berths, India TV News reported on Friday.

Identified simply as Ritesh, the teenage individual was taken into custody by the Railway Police Force. Ritesh was traveling in the same compartment and, due to his unsteady gait, “accidentally” released urine, causing it to land on the couple, per the report.

The affected couple, on their journey from Harpalpur in Madhya Pradesh to Hazrat Nizamuddin, promptly raised an alarm following the act. The traveling ticket examiner relayed the incident to the Railway control room in Jhansi.

Upon reaching Jhansi, Ritesh was asked to disembark, and a formal case was registered against him by the authorities from North Central Railways. The Railways Act provisions were invoked, leading to the imposition of a fine on the accused, according to India TV News. Subsequently, Ritesh was released following the settlement of the fine.

This incident is only the most recent in a bizarre string of shockingly similar events, which Indian media sources have dubbed “pee-gate.” In November 2022, on an Air India flight from New York to Delhi, a drunken man exposed himself and urinated on an elderly woman, sparking controversy as the man faced no immediate consequences.

In March, a similar event occurred on a flight from New York to New Delhi, where an intoxicated student, after arguing with crew members, urinated on another passenger. The student faced a permanent ban from American Airlines. Later that month, an inebriated train ticket checker allegedly urinated on a woman’s head on the Akal Takhat Express en route to Kolkata.
