In a peculiar turn of events in the Chhindwara district of India, an unusual incident unfolded at a local police station, where a rodent was apprehended for reportedly consuming the contents of liquor bottles earmarked as crucial evidence for an ongoing court case. The police, faced with the perplexing situation of discovering approximately 60 empty bottles meant for legal proceedings, attributed the incident to the local rat population, Gulf News reported on Tuesday.

This bizarre scenario emerged when authorities, preparing to present the seized liquor in court, found a considerable quantity missing. The aging infrastructure of the police station was pointed out as a contributing factor, with rats frequently observed within the premises, posing challenges not only to stored items but also jeopardizing official records.

In an attempt to resolve this unorthodox challenge, law enforcement declared the “arrest” of one of the presumed culprits – a rat – intending to present it as evidence in court.

A video posted to media outlet NDTV shows the alleged booze-guzzling troublemaker running around in a cage as a plastic bag full of empty plastic bottles is presented.

According to Gulf News, the case surrounding the seized liquor bottles is pending in court as police figure out how to explain the evidence’s current state.

The last time rodents and booze intersected, a group of scientists researched a treatment for life-threatening alcohol poisoning in humans by getting a bunch of mice drunk.
