Peyton Manning and ‘Dumb and Dumber’ Actor Jeff Daniels Recited Incantations Over a Whiskey-Filled Bathtub at Ford Field to Help The Detroit Lions Win

On Monday, Newsweek reported that Peyton Manning took a trip to Ford Field to break “The Curse of Bobby Layne” and help the Detroit Lions get back on their game. But this wasn’t just any trip.
The former NFL quarterback allegedly took a trip with “The Newsroom” and “Dumb and Dumber” actor Jeff Daniels.
During their jaunt to Ford Field, Manning apparently urged Daniels to recite “incantations over a bathtub filled with whiskey” on the field to break the curse, according to Newseek.
Why whiskey? Whiskey was Layne’s favorite tipple according to Manning.
We haven’t heard anything about sage burning, crystals being placed on the field or animals being sacrificed, but apparently, Manning has a spiritual side because, well… you can’t make this stuff up.
Detroit was 1-5 at the beginning of last season when Manning and Daniels went to the field, Manning divulged on an episode of “Peyton’s Places.” The athlete went to Ford Field with Daniels, a Lions fan, and things have turned around for the team since their magical ritual.
“I strongly believe the recent success of the Detroit Lions is due to ownership, the general manager, the coaching staff, the players, Peyton Manning and me,” the actor known told to Newsweek in an email on Monday.
Daniels allegedly asked “Why the [expletive] is there a bathtub in the end zone of Ford Field” and followed up with a very reasonable question:
“Am I on drugs?”
Manning told Daniels to trust him but claimed he couldn’t use the powers to hex his rival team, The New England Patriots, because “Bill Belichick’s dark magic was too strong,” — although, with the way the Patriots have played this season, we have to wonder if someone more powerful than Manning found a way to successfully curse Belichick.
Peyton Manning is no stranger to the whiskey scene. In 2019, he founded the bourbon brand Sweetens Cove with retired tennis player Andy Roddick and real estate developer Mark Rivers. The brand is helmed by Master Blender Marianne Eaves, who is held in high regard in the whiskey world.
After Manning and Daniel’s magical whiskey-filled ritual, The Lions are currently in first place in the NFC North. The team is going after its first division title since 1993. The team is also going after its first championship since Bobby Layne played for the Detroit Lions nearly six decades ago.
“This is a formidable team who can win the Super Bowl,” said CBS anchor, Tony Romo after the Lions won on Sunday.
Maybe, just maybe, whiskey is all that was needed to break the six-decade Curse of Bobby Layne.
