Ahead of her hotly anticipated follow-up to 2022’s “Traumazine” album, rapper Megan Thee Stallion has teased a tequila brand that’ll compete against the biggest names in the category.
In a recent interview with Adweek, Megan gave advice to young creatives, professed her love for Pinterest and discussed her upcoming Hot Girl Summer concert tour alongside GloRilla. When asked “What’s next?”, Megan casually mentioned that she’s putting together a tequila brand.
“I create the things that I want to see,” Megan told the audience. “I don’t create things for other people to like them. I create the music I want to hear. I go and do my own thing and stay true to me.”
Though exact details are scarce, Internet sleuths have already begun assembling the clues. Users on Reddit have speculated that the brand name might be Chicas Divertidas (“Funny Girls” in English), the name of a VIP package for Megan’s upcoming tour that will reportedly include samples of the unreleased tequila.
Others have voiced their doubts about Megan’s spirit of choice.
Popular as tequila may be, the market is currently crowded to the brim with celebrity-owned imprints. From George Clooney’s Casamigos to Kendall Jenner’s 818, the past decade has witnessed an avalanche of would-be tequila entrepreneurs. For new brands tossing their hats into the ring, it’s nearly impossible to stand out.
However, it should be noted that rapper-owned tequilas aren’t quite as prevalent. Many of the industry’s biggest names — whether it be Jay Z’s D’Ussé Cognac, Drake’s Virginia Black Whiskey or Nicki Minaj’s MYX Fusions wine — have forayed in other boozy directions. More likely than not, Megan will find a way to leverage her position within the genre for a running head start.
The US leg of Megan’s tour is set to start on May 14 in Minnesota. Assuming she drops her new album before then, there’s a good chance we can expect an official tequila unveiling as well.
