Man Breaks Into Liquor Store by Punching Holes Through Wall and ‘Politely Unplugging Wires’

A liquor store in northeast Wichita was broken into after an unidentified man punched two large holes into walls and, in the process, “politely” unplugged wires he reportedly believed to be connected to a surveillance system, according to 12 News. Despite these efforts, the majority of the event was recorded by JT’s Liquor Store’s security cameras.

12 News reported that the break-in took place on the morning of March 16th. The liquor store’s owner, Matt Jabara, was notified of the event through a motion sensor alert.

“They tell me that one sensor had gone off. Generally, if it was one sensor, we tell them to disregard,” Jabara said, according to the report. “I told them I was on my way instead. I tried to pull the cameras up on my phone and the cameras wouldn’t pull up.”

After arriving at the location, Jabara noticed two cash registers missing — and a peculiar breeze blowing near the back of the liquor store.

“I get ready to walk towards the back door again and I felt a cold breeze,” Jabara said. “I turn on the light. I look down and saw the big hole where the guy came in through the wall.”

According to 12 News, the man shattered glass in an unoccupied adjacent unit and proceeded to punch two large holes in the wall. He managed to gain entry to a storage room through the second hole, and while doing so, disconnected the liquor store’s Wi-Fi and other wires that he presumably believed to be connected to a security camera system, per Jabara.

“I had never seen anything like it,” Jabara said, as reported by 12 News. “The officer that was walking around with me had never seen anything like it. We go back and watch the video; instead of yanking wires, he’s politely unplugging wires.”

While no liquor was stolen, the missing cash registers contained a combined $400. Additionally, the damage inflicted on the store’s sheetrock wall and internal wiring will cost somewhere from $2,500 to $3,200 to repair, per 12 News.

“It’s not strictly the monetary that hurts so much,” Jabara shared with 12 News. “You almost feel violated to have somebody spend an hour and a half, bust through your wall and tear up two cash registers and leave like it was no big deal.”

“Your faith in humanity drops a bit.”

According to the report, the liquor store owner has since upgraded his business’ surveillance by adding more motion sensors and cameras.
