On Thursday, the Taiwan News reported that 30 cases of The Macallan scotch whisky aboard a truck caught fire in Taipei, forcing the delivery driver to pull over and watch helplessly as his vehicle burst into flames.

Thirteen firefighters and local police rushed to the scene, and the whisky-fueled inferno was contained within five minutes. Nobody was injured.

The whisky was destroyed, however, resulting in NT$2 million ($64,000) worth of damage.

The cause of the fire is still currently being investigated by the Kinmen County Fire Bureau, which warned individuals not to leave flammable items in the sun and urged individuals not to throw their cigarette butts out the window.

About The Macallan — a Scotch Whisky Brand Known to Cost a Pretty Penny

The Macallan announced on Wednesday that the Speyside scotch whisky brand was marking its 200th anniversary with a lavish release: Tales of The Macallan Volume II. The whisky was distilled in 1949 and bottled in 2022. It’s being sold for about $97,000 at The Whisky Shop.

Just 334 expressions are available, and the decanters were crafted by the renowned glass maker, Lalique.

On Nov. 20, The Macallan broke world records after a rare bottle was auctioned for $2.7 million. The sale of the exorbitantly priced whisky marked the most expensive wine or spirit ever sold.

Ultimately, on Jan. 12, The Craft Irish Whiskey broke that record, when a decanter was sold for $2.8 million.
