A Milestone for Killowen Distillery: Opening Their Own Cask of Whiskey

Killowen Distillery in Ireland announced last month that the distillery had reached an exciting milestone in its history: they got to open their own cask of Killowen whiskey.

With the distillery’s unique, handmade,  flame-fed stills and distiller Brendon Carty’s reputation for making traditional spirits, the debut of this cask has been highly anticipated and has been described as a “joyous occasion” and will likely be challenging to come by.

“Delicious, impressing everyone at the gathering who found it has a quality expected from whiskeys far beyond its years. A full-bodied heavy PX sherry bomb, with a distillate that stands up against the rich cask and still shines through, offering generous notes of maple syrup, thick Canadian bacon, clove, butter, cream, and Christmas cake.” as described by Carty after opening the cask on its third anniversary.

In a statement, Carty expressed that while a bottle from Cask 01 is expected to be difficult to come by, the distillery will be releasing more exciting casks soon that will be more widely available.

Cask 001 will be available for purchase through an online ballot system and is expected to be available for sale between now and July 2022.
