Justin Timberlake Arrested, Charged With DWI After Police Say the Singer Swerved Into Oncoming Traffic

AP News reported on Tuesday that famed singer Justin Timberlake was arrested and charged with a DWI in New York. ABC News reported that the arrest took place early Tuesday morning at 12:37.
According to ABC News, Sag Harbor Village police say Timberlake, who was driving a 2025 BMW, blew through a stop sign and swerved into a lane of oncoming traffic. According to police, he “failed to stop and failed to maintain his lane of travel.”
Police pulled Timberlake over and said the singer was “operating his vehicle in an intoxicated condition.”
The star was held for arraignment until later Tuesday morning, when he was released.
Timberlake’s reps have yet to respond to multiple outlets regarding the arrest. A statement from the Long Island District Attorney’s Office shared that the star is scheduled to be arraigned in Sag Harbor, Long Island. He was charged with one DWI count and is scheduled to appear in court next July 26.
It appears the singer was partying in Sag Harbor, a wealthy enclave within the Hamptons. The neighborhood is a popular party and travel destination for the elite in the summer.
The ten-time Grammy Award winner is currently scheduled to perform in Chicago on Friday and Saturday, according to AP News. The singer will then perform at Madison Square Garden in New York on Tuesday and Wednesday as part of a tour to promote his new album, “Everything I Thought It Was.” The album features singles like “Selfish,” “Drown” and “No Angels.” “Everything I Thought It Was” is Timberlake’s sixth album, and Pitchfork claims it conjures up plenty of Y2K nostalgia.
Timberlake is known as the “Prince of Pop,” and found fame at a young age. He competed on Star Search, a competition television show that was popular in the ’80s and ’90s. Other stars that appeared on the “Voice-like” reality show included Christina Aguilera, Britney Spears, Aaliyah and Beyoncé, according to Rolling Stone.
The star was also a cast member of the Mickey Mouse Club, but he really made waves in the late ’90s as the lead singer of the boy band *NSYNC. The group achieved superstardom with hits like “Bye Bye Bye,” “I Want You Back” and “It’s Gonna Be Me.”
Timberlake eventually went solo in 2002, and released popular songs like “Rock Your Body,” “Signs” and “SexyBack.” The singer additionally acted in movies like “The Social Network,” “Friends with Benefits” and “In Time.”
