Johnny Depp may be set to launch his very own rum brand shortly. A recent report indicated that the actor is in the later phases of producing his own Caribbean dark rum.

An exclusive from The Daily Mail has reported that Depp is in the advanced stages of developing a dark rum. Sources indicate that this will be a rum of Depp’s own production from his own company founded in partnership with a longtime friend of 30 years. The partner was not identified.

Little is known about the as-yet-named rum brand including its location or what it will be produced from. Depp who owns an island in the Caribbean may take inspiration from other distilleries in the surrounding area.

Dark rum is the only indication but that is extremely vague since dark rums can be made from either molasses or cane juice and they do not necessarily need to be aged to achieve the ‘dark’ color that indicates the style. However, the rum’s label has been discussed. One of the only statements claims the brand is going to be ‘authentic and personal’ to Depp in both flavor and overall design of the rum.

The label design has not yet been finalized, but it’s rumored to have personal touches, including artwork based on Depp’s tattoos. Specifically, the three hearts are inked on his arm symbolic of his children and ex-wife. It is also speculated to have another of Depp’s tattoos, a skull and cross-bones representing his famous role as swashbuckling pirate Captain Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean movies.

Many celebrities have been jumping on the bandwagon of alcohol endorsements but few have founded their own brands and even fewer involve themselves in the production process. Depp may be seeking the success that has been garnered by celebrities in the past like George Clooney and his billion-dollar sale of tequila brand, Casamigos in 2017.

With his own production on hand, it is likely the “Pirates of the Caribbean” star will never have to ask why the rum is gone ever again. There has been no word as of yet on a potential release date for Depp’s future rum brand but we will be sure to keep you updated on details as they come along.
