Jennifer Lopez’s Delola Cocktails Brand Was Reportedly a Straw That ‘Broke the Camel’s Back’ in her Imploding Marriage to Ben Affleck

The Daily Mail reported Saturday that the marital troubles between Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck might have been spawned by the launch of her ready-to-drink cocktail line, Delola. The Daily Mail reports it was “one of the things that broke the camel’s back.”
The Academy Award-winning director was apparently “devastated” when Lopez launched the ready-to-drink cocktail line due to his past with alcohol dependency issues.
“Ben had to fight to get his life back after overcoming alcohol,” a source said, according to The Daily Mail. “Knowing how he lost everything, including the love of his family, knowing that he could possibly relapse, Jen decided to start her own spritzer line for more money, as if she did not have enough.”
The Delola line includes a Margarita and Paloma Rosa with “premium tequila,” Bella Berry and L’Orange Spritz. The Margarita is made with citrus and the Paloma includes grapefruit and elderflower. Delola’s vodka drink features Vodka, berries and hibiscus while the brand’s L’Orange Spritz appears to be a riff on an aperitivo, and it features Amaro, orange and passionfruit.
Yet some criticized the multi-hyphenate for the release, in that it seemed a bit tone-deaf given Affleck’s well-documented sobriety battle.
In a 2020 piece with the New York Times, the actor, writer and director claimed that he was a person who exhibited “compulsive behavior” due to a “basic discomfort” that wouldn’t go away.
“I drank relatively normally for a long time,” Affleck told The New York Times. “What happened was I started drinking more and more when my marriage was falling apart. This was 2015, 2016. My drinking, of course, created more marital problems.”
The ready-to-drink line Lopez launched was met with a frosty reception in July 2023. Before the launch, Lopez cemented her reputation as a teetotaler, leading consumers to question whether the launch was based on authentic passion or just a cash grab. Delola was met with even more backlash due to Affleck’s well-documented issues with sobriety.
Yet Lopez would not be deterred and moved forward with the launch, even going so far as to outfit the bottles with images of lions as a tender homage to her and Affleck’s zodiac signs as the stars are both Leos.
The multi-hyphenate took to Instagram to justify her choices and shared that she did happen to enjoy a cocktail from time to time.
“I do drink responsibly,” Lopez explained. “I don’t drink to get shit-faced. I drink to be social and to have a nice time and just relax and let loose a bit, but always responsibly.”
Those monitoring her post on the social sphere shared their thoughts.
“So awkward when she talks about drinking and responsibly and not getting shit-faced knowing her husband suffers from alcoholism for years,” a user commented.
The Daily Mail reported that the brand wasn’t the only issue that led to the impending demise of their marriage. According to the outlet, Lopez’s obsession with fame “became too much” for Affleck.
The added public scrutiny after Lopez released a documentary about her and Affleck’s story, “This Is Me… Now: A Love Story,” also didn’t do the couple any favors, as Affleck apparently opposed it.
“They lost £18 million and [it] ruined Ben’s trust in her,” a source claimed to The Daily Mail. “Ben seeing her spread love letters on a table for others to read [as she did onscreen] infuriated him. This is when he knew that she put fame above love.”
