Jay-Z became the second recipient of the Dr. Dre Global Impact Award at the 2024 Grammy Awards. Afterward, the billionaire mogul used the award to take a cheeky tipple of D’USSÉ XO Cognac. During his acceptance speech, he also joked about using past awards as sippy cups for his daughter Blue Ivy. The rapper took the opportunity to call out the Grammys for never giving Beyoncé an Album of the Year award as Taylor Swift walked away with her fourth.

Jay-Z gave an impassioned speech with his daughter by his side at this year’s Grammy Awards.

“I don’t want to embarrass this young lady [Beyoncé], but she has more Grammys than everyone, and never won Album of the Year. So even by your own metrics, that doesn’t work. Think about that: the most Grammys, never won Album of the Year. That doesn’t work,” he said.

“Some of you gonna go home tonight and feel like you’ve been robbed,” he continued. “Some of you may get robbed. Some of you don’t belong in the category. No, when I get nervous, I tell the truth.”

Forget the Grammys, you got to keep showing up. Until they give you all those accolades you feel you deserve. Until they call you ‘chairman,’ until they call you a ‘genius,‘ until they call you ‘the greatest of all time.’ You feel me? Thank you.”

After the speech, Jay-Z was videoed using his award an exclusive tasting glass for his cognac. Over a decade ago he first poured D’USSÉ into a Grammy, a year after partnering with BACARDÍ to create the brand in 2012.

While taking shots at the Grammys for their snub of Beyoncé’s album the rapper gave a nod to his cognac brand. Last year, the BACARDÍ purchased a majority stake in the D’USSÉ from Jay-Z ending their 50/50 partnership. Despite some months of legal conflict, it appears Jay-Z is still a fan of his cognac brand.
