Bermuda rum producer, Goslings has recently announced the newest edition to its line of Family Reserve rums, The Family Reserve Old Rum Rye Barrel Finish. This rum is the first extension of the Goslings Family Reserve Old Rum line that was started back in 2003.

The Family Reserve Old Rum Line was originally produced exclusively for members of the Gosling family and bottled just once annually. Each edition was created from a blend of rums that are matured in ex-bourbon barrels. However, the latest edition had an additional three years of aging in rye whiskey barrels with a combination of three rye barrel fills in the final blend.

“Goslings introduced Family Reserve Old Rum in 2003, and twenty years later, the rye barrel finish is a welcome new addition to our family of rums. This will be the first of multiple innovations in the Old Rum line of products,” says Malcolm Gosling Jr., eighth-generation rum maker. “We took a unique blending approach when introducing our Old Rum to rye barrels, starting independent fills in 2018, 2019, and 2020. Finally, this year, we married the three aged rums for bottling and the end result is a complex rum that can be enjoyed like a bourbon or aged whiskey – either sipped, on the rocks, or in a classic cocktail.”

Tasting Notes According to the Brand:

Aroma: Complex nose of pepper, leather, and chocolate

Palate: Spice, molasses, plum, hints of dark chocolate

Finish: Lingering, dry and elegant

The Family Reserve Old Rum Rye Barrel Finish joins the Goslings lineup just after the release of Spirited Seas expression which was aged onboard a ship traveling the Caribbean. It has since been made a permanent part of the Goslings portfolio. There are currently plans to release the next edition of the experimental ocean-aged rum later this year.

Goslings also introduced in the last year a new Dark ‘N Stormy canned cocktail portfolio with a trio of tropical flavors: Pineapple, Mango, and Black Cherry, joining the original Dark ‘n Stormy which is the iconic cocktail trademarked by the brand.

The Family Reserve Old Rum Rye Barrel Finish will be available starting in November at select stores for an SRP of $79.99. Search for bottles online at the brand’s website or on ReserveBar.
