George Clooney Trades Tequila for Wine With Upcoming French Rosé Launch

Hollywood A-lister George Clooney is reportedly dipping his toes into the wine market with a pair of bottlings from his Domaine de Canadel vineyard in Brignoles, France.

According to a local newspaper, Clooney has spent the last few months in blending sessions for a white and rosé set to launch sometime in spring. Though the release is largely being kept under wraps, wine consultant Laurence Berlemont reports that it will be named “La Bastide Saint-Georges.”

George and his wife Amal Clooney bought the 425-acre, 18th-century estate back in 2021. As it so happens, the region is chock full of wine-loving stars — within a 30-minute drive, you can reach George Lucas’ Château Marguï, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s Château Mirval and John Malkovich’s Les Quelles de la Coste vineyard.

Head wine consultant Laurence Berlemont has previously overseen vineyards at Château Marguï and Mirval respectively. She says that Clooney has been closely involved in the production process; “He gives us his thoughts, he’s got a good palate, he’s a very humble person.”

Of course, this isn’t his first boozy rodeo.

Clooney — alongside businessman and former model Rande Gerber — first forayed into the alcohol industry with the launch of Casamigos Tequila in 2013. Four years later, the duo sold the brand to British spirits giant Diageo for a headline-grabbing $1 billion. The sale single-handedly jumpstarted the celebrity tequila craze as we know it today.

Compared to agave spirits, wine is perhaps the only alcohol category with just as many, if not more celebrities involved. Clooney’s latest venture will go up against competition from Francis Ford Coppola, Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore, Snoop Dogg, Post Malone and more.
