Sunraysia Prune Juice faces a nationwide recall as bottles across Australia have been inadvertently fermented, resulting in the unexpected presence of alcohol, News 7 reported Tuesday.

According to the report, customers are advised against consuming the Sunraysia Prune Juice 1L, with a best-before date of December 4, 2025, available at Coles and Woolworths in New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria, South Australia and Western Australia.

The recall, prompted by unintended fermentation and the detection of alcohol, is a precautionary measure outlined by Food Standards Australia New Zealand. To ensure safety, consumers who have purchased the affected product are strongly encouraged to discontinue its use immediately and keep it away from children. Refunds are also available for consumers who return the product to the original place of purchase.

The last time we reported a product containing unintended levels of alcohol, a Montreal woman faced an impaired driving charge after unknowingly consuming cocktails made from Bombay Sapphire gin, which had an alcohol percentage almost double the labeled amount. The gin, part of a 2017 recall due to a bottling error, contained an undiluted 77% ABV instead of the usual 40%.

In 2022, a kombucha brand was sued for the “sorely misleading” labeling of its fermented tea products, which reportedly contained double the legal amount of alcohol allowed in non-alcoholic beverages.
