GB News reported on Friday that an allegedly drunken duo aboard an EasyJet flight from Tenerife, Spain, to London Gatwick Airport were kicked off the flight as passengers applauded. Officers boarded the plane and removed them from the aircraft.
The outlet reported that an individual aboard the flight claimed to discover a one-liter vodka bottle that “appeared to be almost empty” after the “rowdy” duo left.
GB News reported that a witness claimed the two were “in a bad way.”
Concerned passengers raised the issues with flight staff, and the EasyJet team took action by having them removed from the flight.
“EasyJet’s cabin crew are trained to assess and evaluate all situations and to act quickly and appropriately to ensure that the safety of the flight and other passengers is not compromised at any time,” an airline spokesperson said, according to GB News.
Though EasyJet appeared to have a handle on the situation with the allegedly drunken passengers, it appears that other airlines haven’t been as proactive in the past.
In July, Delta Airlines faced a lawsuit to the tune of $2 million after a woman accused the airline and its flight staff of “gross negligence” when a drunken passenger allegedly sexually assaulted her and her teenage daughter.
The victim claimed she requested the airline flight attendants to stop serving drinks to a drunk passenger who she claimed was verbally harassing her. She claimed in the lawsuit the flight attendants continued serving the man 10 vodka drinks. His behavior escalated, and he allegedly groped both plaintiffs. The lawsuit claimed the flight attendants refused to move the woman and her daughter away from the man, despite their apparent distress.
Eventually, a different male passenger stepped in and offered to switch seats and sat between the mother and the man for the rest of the trip.
A March press release from the US Attorney’s Office cited an increase in cases of sexual assault on aircrafts, marking a disturbing trend. A connecting thread between these cases usually involves alcohol.
A recent incident reported by People in April involved a young woman who filed a lawsuit against Delta Airlines, claiming a former employee of the airline sexually assaulted her during a flight from one of Taylor Swift’s concerts. The Swift fan had a fear of flying and took a Xanax to relax, which lulled her to sleep. When she awoke, she alleges the employee was groping her and noted that he “smelled of alcohol,” according to the outlet.
The employee pled guilty to sexual misconduct, according to People.
