On Tuesday night, a 55-year-old American passenger aboard an All Nippon Airways (ANA) jet destined for Seattle allegedly bit a flight attendant’s arm, prompting an unscheduled return to Tokyo. As reported by the Daily Mail on Wednesday, the incident led to the mildly injured crew member receiving immediate attention from authorities.
The ‘heavily drunk’ passenger, who later claimed to have no recollection of his behavior, reportedly bit the flight attendant during the mid-flight episode, per the Daily Mail. This compelled the pilots to reroute the ANA aircraft back over the Pacific to Haneda Airport. The ANA plane landed with 159 passengers on board, and the unruly passenger was promptly handed over to local police.
Responding to the incident, social media users expressed mock horror, drawing parallels to the beginning of a zombie movie and the fictional virus from the video game series “Resident Evil.”
“It’s too late. Zombie transformation has begun…” wrote one individual, per the report, while another added, “This is the first person infected with the Resident Evil T virus.”
ANA, in an official statement to the Daily Mail, confirmed the intoxicated passenger’s unsafe behavior and underscored their unwavering commitment to the safety and security of passengers and crew.
“On January 16, NH118 departing from Tokyo Haneda to Seattle returned during the flight due to an intoxicated passenger who was acting in an unsafe manner to the flight crew and passengers,” the statement read. “Upon arrival at Haneda Airport, the passenger was turned over to the local police.”
The flight has been rescheduled for departure on January 17, with no reported injuries among the passengers.
“The safety and security of our passengers and employees are ANA’s top priority and we will take all necessary actions to ensure it,” ANA concluded.
The last time a plane passenger stirred some booze-fueled chaos, a man was forcibly removed from an American Airlines plane after reportedly being denied a preflight gin and tonic. The situation escalated, leading to the man being handcuffed while openly sobbing.
