Douglas Laing Celebrates the Scottish Rain With Newest Whisky Release

Big Peat, Douglas Laing’s Islay Scotch Whisky Brand, has a new bottling just in time for the summer.  Big Peat Peatrichor celebrates the rain that falls on Islay and becomes integrated with the Earth and Water on the island that goes into the whiskey made by the distilleries there.  It is a play on the word “petrichor” which is the earthy smell you experience when a heavy rainfall lands on dry soil.

The whisky promises to be ashy and earthy, and will be bottled at a cask strength of 53.8% ABV.  Big Peat himself is depicted on the bottle preparing for the weather in a bright yellow rain jacket, letting the rain add to his whisky drinking enjoyment rather than dampen his spirits.

“This latest release and accompanying marketing campaign brings to life the ultimate distillation of Islay and is definitely unmistakably Islay in style with notes of peat smoke, damp earth and a leathery charm,” said Douglas Laing’s CEO Chris Leggat

Just over 5,000 bottles will be available worldwide with a recommended retail price of £44.50, or about $63 USD.
