On Saturday in Tamil Nadu, India, two men reportedly unknowingly drank cyanide-laced liquor, leaving one dead and the other in critical condition.

As reported by The Hindu, the incident unfolded when Asser Hussein, 36, allegedly, in an apparent bid to end his life during marital discord, mixed a bottle of alcohol with cyanide and hid the concoction in his wardrobe. Saddam Hussein, 32, the younger sibling of Asser Hussein, inadvertently discovered the mixture on Friday. Unaware of its deadly composition, he brought the bottle to a local Tasmac bar, where he and a companion named Asen, 39, ingested the toxic brew, per the report.

The repercussions were swift, as both individuals quickly lost consciousness, prompting their transfer to Salem Government Hospital. Asen succumbed to the poison early on Saturday, according to The Hindu, while Saddam is currently “battling for life.”

The Salem Town Police have initiated a formal investigation into the matter.

In June, an eerily similar incident again took place in Tamil Nadu, where two men unknowingly ingested cyanide-laced liquor acquired from a nearby wholesale liquor shop. The police suspected that a family dispute might have been the underlying cause of the deaths.
