Chairman’s Reserve Rum has announced the return of its competition: The Chairman’s Spice Lab. The competition challenges bartenders to create a signature spiced rum with ingredients and flavors inspired by their own locality and culture.

The second edition of the Chairman’s Spice Lab Competition is open to bartenders from 9 countries including Italy, the United Kingdom, Belgium, Germany, France, Denmark, Greece, Saint Lucia and the United States. Registration is open until May 31. The rums presented should be inspired by the local flavors and spices that are meaningful to the participants.

The competition culminates with the top 15 entrants from across the world presenting their idea to a judging panel virtually. The winner will get to travel to Saint Lucia in October 2023 to create their winning Chairman’s Spiced Rum blend at the lab.

The three winners will fly to the island of Santa Lucia to work with the distillery experts on the creation of a distillate to be launched on the market in 2024. The chosen bartenders will have the opportunity to create a prototype of their idea, working alongside Master Blender Deny Duplessis. The entrants will also try their hand at a marketing campaign. The winning rum will be distributed internationally after its official presentation in New Orleans on the occasion of Tales of the Cocktail 2024.

Bartenders who want to try their hand at the competition should sign up on the Spice Lab page. Entrants must include their vision, inspiration, intended spice blend, ideal serve and explanation of how and why they would want to promote this product in the beverage community. Participation is open to working bartenders of legal drinking age in their respective countries.
