Brown-Forman announced on Tuesday its acquisition of Mediterranean-inspired gin brands, Gin Mare and Gin Mare Capri, from Vantguard and MG Destilerías. The Gin Mare brands will help expand Brown-Forman’s portfolio of premium spirits.
“We believe this exciting acquisition enhances our capacity to deliver meaningful global growth for the long term,” said Lawson Whiting, president and CEO of Brown‑Forman Corporation in the news release.
Gin Mare has been in production since 2010 and has quickly become the largest ultra-premium gin brand in the world according to IWSR. MG Destilerías has been making gin since 1940 with its flagship gin, Gin MG, “one of the first Spanish gins to be made using the traditional London Dry Gin method in copper stills,” according to MG Destilerías.
Gin Mare will continue to be made at MG Destilerías, located in a thirteenth century chapel in a fishing village between the Costa Brava and the Costa Dorada.
Gin Mare is made with Arbequina olives from Spain, basil from Italy, thyme from Turkey and rosemary from Greece. Gin Mare Capri adds lemons from Capri and Italian bergamot from Calabria to Gin Mare’s four main botanicals.
“Brown‑Forman is the perfect partner to bring Gin Mare to more consumers and bartenders around the world while keeping the brand’s commitment to producing a unique, high quality, Mediterranean gin,” said MG Destilerías’ CEO Manu Giró and Master Distiller Marc Giró in the news release.
Back in 2019, Brown-Forman acquired Ford’s Gin, making Gin Mare the second premium gin brand Brown-Forman owns.
