On Wednesday, Four Roses Bourbon and Brooklyn Brewery announced the fifth annual release of their collaborative barrel-aged stout, Brooklyn Black Ops.

Available throughout the U.S., Black Ops is a Russian Imperial Stout aged for nine months in Four Roses Small Batch Bourbon casks. With an ABV of 12%, this year’s Black Ops stout is slightly more potent than last year’s, which clocked in at 11.5%.

“Black Ops is a modern classic with its own personality – brisk, light on its feet, and complex without being heavy,” Brooklyn Brewery Brewmaster and James Beard Award-winner Garrett Oliver said in a news release. “The Four Roses Small Batch Bourbon barrels take this beer where no other barrels could carry it, and I’m very proud of working with Brent and Four Roses’ brilliant team.”

Four Roses updated its branding this year in honor of its 135th anniversary, and the parties behind Black Ops say it boasts a new design inspired by the distillery’s reworked branding.

Four-packs of 16-ounce cans of 2023 Brooklyn Black Ops will be available for a suggested retail price of $19.99 throughout the U.S. and at the Four Roses Distillery visitor center in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky.

Aside from being Four Roses’ 135th anniversary, 2023 is the 35th anniversary of Brooklyn Brewery’s flagship beer.

“Getting to work with Garrett and the Brooklyn Brewery team to create a product that celebrates the complementary notes of bourbon and beer is something we look forward to every year,” Four Roses Master Distiller Brent Elliott said in a news release. “This year felt particularly special as we’re both celebrating important milestones for our companies. The flavor that our bourbon barrels imparts on Brooklyn Brewery’s complex stout creates a truly harmonious beer that we think Black Ops fans will really enjoy.”
