Police accuse British Airways flight attendants of falsely reporting a crime after new details come to light. In Sept. cabin crew members reported they were victims of an armed robbery and could not work as scheduled. As a result, the flight headed to Heathrow from Rio De Janerio was delayed and passengers were left stranded for 24 hours. However, after further investigation, authorities believe the British Airways employees lied about the robbery in order to cover up a night of binge drinking and taking illegal drugs.
Previously, three flight attendants were believed to have been targeted by a gang on a night out in Brazil on Sept. 5. The supposed incident left the trio unable to work which was believed to have caused a flight delay. However, British Airways has since said the flight attendants involved “were not scheduled” for the Sept. 6th flight and the reason for the canceled trip is unclear. Now, police have found evidence that the trio lied.
“After field investigation and intelligence work, data crossing and image analysis, the Special Tourism Support Delegation (Deat) found that three flight attendants from an English company, who reported having been robbed in September this year lied in their testimony when recording the incident,” Civil Police of the State of Rio de Janeiro told The Independent.
The statement continued, “According to Deat, of the various crimes reported by the trio, only one occurred, after a late night in which they consumed drugs and alcohol and went to an abandoned gas station, close to a community in Rio, where they continued their drug use.”
Based on a report by The U.S. Sun, one of the three drank “to the point of becoming unconscious” during the night in question and got separated from the other two before ending up in the hospital.
Authorities questioned the flight attendant in the hospital and he admitted that he “spent the night drinking and taking drugs with two women.”
British Airways has maintained that “this is a matter for the police.”
Next time the flight attendants want to avoid going to work because of a hangover, they should maybe not involve the police and stick to the tried and true, “I’m not feeling well.”
