April Fool’s Day Jokes From Rum Brands That Made Us Giggle

Nothing is ever as it seems on April Fool’s Day. Spirit companies from all over the world get creative with jokes all in the name of good fun. Brands present seemingly real advertisements for products that are either too good or too bad to be true, sometimes these products even become a reality after overwhelming positive responses from the public. Here are some giggle-worthy April Fool’s advertisements from rum brands this year.

Happy Raptor Distilling – Pot Hole Syrup

A distillery out of New Orleans, LA captured the true flavor of the city with its joke product of a pot-hole flavored syrup. Happy Raptor and their line of 504 rums couldn’t help but give consumers something that would truly inspire interesting cocktail creations.

“The 504Pothole Syrup is handcrafted with 100% New Orleans unboiled water, real pothole dirt (sorted by hand by our distillers), and a collection of ‘spices’ from the streets of the Quarter.”- 504rum, Instagram

The pothole-flavored syrup was made in “partnership” with an Instagram account that catalogs all the terrible potholes in and around New Orleans.  The distillery does actually have some real syrups like the 504 Hibiscus and 504 Praline, though probably not as distinctive or “flavorful” as the Pot Hole Syrup

Malibu and Irn-Bru – MaliBru Canned Cocktails

Malibu rum and Scottish soda brand, Irn Bru got people very hyped for their April Fool’s Day product. The soda brand hinted at a partnership with the Pernod-Ricard flavored rum brand to bring fans “the Scottish nectar with the refreshing taste of summer,” in a canned cocktail.

Alas, the partnership appears to be too good to be true (at least for now), both brands posted that the RTD was indeed a delicious-sounding joke. However, Malibu had merch made for the imaginary collaboration and is having a giveaway competition on Instagram to commemorate the foolery.

SlyDog – Rum Flavored Vape

SlyDog rum introduced a new rum-flavored vape pen on the 1st. The product appeared very real and got some vapers looking forward to the presale of the pen, but when it comes to product releases on the 1st of April, no business is to be trusted.

The pen named CUNNING CLOUDS has 0% nicotine and 0% alcohol but the same taste as the spiced rum. It also happens to be 0% real. Fans were gutted to hear that there won’t actually be a rum-flavored vape pen for sale. Although products have been known to become a reality after fans pushed companies to make their dreams come true.

Sailor Jerry – Spiced Rum Cereal

Spiced rum brand, Sailor Jerry took to Instagram on Saturday to announce “Sailor’s Crunch,” a new rum-flavored cereal with marshmallows. Eagle-eyed followers immediately spotted the hoax though, at the bottom of the box it stated that the “product is clearly not real.”

For those who didn’t spot the disclaimer the brand provided a hint when it said “with sweet marshmallow flash and just a touch of spice, this cereal is fool of flavor.” The cereal doesn’t sound half bad and with so many nostalgic products getting an adult makeover it isn’t that far-fetched for a rum-inspired cereal to be on the market someday soon.
