‘Give the Daddies Some Juice’: Andy Cohen Hopes CNN Will Reverse Alcohol Ban for Upcoming New Year’s Eve Broadcast

It has been almost one year since the previous CEO of CNN, Chris Licht told reporters they could not drink on-air during the New Year’s Eve Broadcast. Licht believed drinking on camera was bad for CNN’s credibility and respectability. With New Year’s fast approaching, Andy Cohen is already thinking about his hosting duties, especially whether or not alcohol will be a part of this year’s festivities.
Last month, Mark Thompson took the helm of the massive news channel. The regime change could mean a return to sauced CNN personalities making viral late-night comments.
Andy Cohen told E! News’ Justin Sylvester and co-host Adrienne Bailon-Houghton at BravoCon, “Hopefully, I will not be sneaking it.”
Cohen continued, “I haven’t heard anything yet, but come on, they need to let us drink. It’s New Year’s Eve. That didn’t go well last year in terms of viewer happiness about us drinking. People really cared and I hope CNN gives the people what they want.”
CNN coverage had become known for inebriated antics over the years with footage quickly spreading across social media platforms. Cohen in particular has had a few intoxicated rants and comments including blasting former NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio and throwing shade at Ryan Seacrest’s competing New Year’s Eve coverage on ABC.
Despite some backlash, Cohen continues to advocate for himself and his co-host Anderson Cooper to be allowed to drink on-air. “Give the daddies some juice,” he joked.
Thompson may have a different opinion on CNN being associated with alcohol. However, no announcements on the policy have been made as of yet.
