This cocktail is a version of the famous two-in-one combo cocktail, the Miami Vice. The Dynamic Duo is made by combining two iconic rum cocktails, the strawberry daiquiri with the pina colada. The layered drink beautifully showcases the Gemini’s twin personalities and makes for a unique drinking experience that changes while you sip.

Ingredients

  • 1 ounce of light rum
  • 1 ounce of dark Jamaican rum
  • 1 ½ ounce of pineapple Juice
  • 1 ounce of coconut cream
  • 2 – ½  ounces of simple syrup (1 ounce total – divided)
  • ½ ounce of lime juice
  • 2 strawberries
  • Garnish: pineapple fronds & strawberry

Directions

Muddle the strawberries with simple syrup in a hurricane glass until it is mostly smooth. Add lime juice to the strawberry mixture. Fill the glass with crushed ice. Next, add rum, juice, coconut cream and reserved simple syrup into a shaker with ice. Shake until combined and strain carefully into the glass to give the layered appearance. The airy nature of the Gemini is represented in this springtime-inspired cocktail. Rhubarb, the star ingredient in this cocktail, is seasonally appropriate as it grows in the late spring and ushers in the summer equinox just as the Gemini. The addition of bubbles highlights the element of air and uplifts the beverage while bringing together the other components to make a harmonious yet complex cocktail.

Ingredients

  • 2 ounces of unaged cane spirit (preferably a rhum agricole or clairin)
  • 1 ounce of rhubarb syrup
  • 1 ounce of fresh lemon juice
  • 2 – 3 ounces of dry sparking wine (cava) or soda water
  • Garnish: Rhubarb stalk peel

Directions

In a shaker with ice add the cane spirit, juice and rhubarb syrup. Shake the ingredients until combined. Next, pour the mixture into a glass with ice and top off with dry sparkling wine or soda water if you prefer. Finally, add the finishing touch with a thin peel of rhubarb line on the inside of the glass.
