On Monday, three men were arrested by police in Chennai, India, over allegedly murdering a man with a stone after he and his brother refused to buy the men liquor, according to The Hindu.

The three men, all 24 years old, approached 30-year-old Manikandan and his brother, 27-year-old Prabakaran, on Saturday while the two were moving into a new rental home with a truck full of their belongings, per The Hindu. Joined with two other men, the group demanded money from the brothers, reportedly saying that they could either “pay up or buy the men some liquor,” The Hindu wrote. Manikandan then informed the group that he did not have money at the time and would pay them after unpacking.

According to The Hindu, the group attacked the brothers with stones when they began to enter their vehicle after refusing to hand over gold jewelry. Manikandan was reported to have died on the spot, while his brother was left seriously injured.

The duo was taken to a nearby hospital where Manikandan was announced “brought dead,” per the report. Prabakaran is undergoing treatment at the Government Kilpauk Medical College and Hospital.

After registering a murder case, police located the three suspects using CCTV footage.

In February, a similar event occurred when three teenage girls were arrested over allegedly killing a man by stabbing him and pelting him with stones over a broken bottle of gin.
