Treasury Wine Estates the company behind the hugely popular wine brand, 19 Crimes, has announced its foray into spirits with the release of “The Vanished” Spiced Rum. The spirit is what the brand is calling a “new and disruptive take” on rum and is the first liquor produced under the label.

19 Crimes is known for its iconic bottles featuring infamous criminals of Australia and celebrities who may have seen time behind bars, such as Snoop Dogg and Martha Stewart. Just like the wines, The Vanished Spiced Rum will also display an image of a person caught on the wrong side of the law. The Australian convict Mary Bryant appears on the label.

According to The Grocer, 19 Crimes describes her as “one of Australia’s most infamous convicts” since she “vanished” from a convict settlement at Botany Bay in the 18th century and was able to obtain her freedom and reach the island of Timor, Southeast Asia.

The Vanished is a tropical take on spiced rum, highlighting tropical fruit flavors with aromas of mango and pineapple combined with notes of caramel, molasses, and a hint of vanilla. The rum is bottled at 37.5% abv.

The Grocer reported, “After experimenting with barrel-aged wines with our 19 Crimes Uprising range, we wanted to push the boundaries even further,” said Russell Kirkham, head of regional marketing EMEA for Treasury’s ‘Premium Brands’ range. “Taking a bold leap and creating a 19 Crimes spiced rum was the next natural step for us as a brand.”

The rum is available in Tesco Stores across the UK with a retail price of £28.00 ($35.34 US). It has not been stated when the rum will be made available in the US.
