Evelyn Hickman, a woman who was an ammunition inspector for the Ministry of Defense during World War II, turned a century old, StokeonTrentLive reported on Wednesday. If you’re wondering what her secret is to a long life, she’ll tell you.

“I must have a good heart because I eat plenty of junk food and I have the odd whiskey,” Hickman told StokeonTrentLive. “I drove until I was 95, too.”

Hickman was born in Fegg Hayes in the United Kingdom and lived there her entire life. She claims to eat whatever junk food she desires — and is quite partial to chocolate and cookies. Hickman also likes to wash her chocolate down with a tot of whiskey.

She celebrated her 100th birthday surrounded by friends and family.

Hickman married her husband, Ken Hickman in 1943. Ken Hickman took a break from the war to get married to Evelyn, then returned to work with the Royal Medical Corps. Evelyn had one son named Ron Hickman in 1950. His wife gave birth to Evelyn’s granddaughter, Sharon. Sharon Hickman eventually brought Evelyn’s great-grandson, Sam Smith into the world in 1996.

There may be something to whiskey leading to a long life, considering that Queen Elizabeth II lived until 96 years old. According to Fox News, Queen Elizabeth was also quite partial to whisky and had a longstanding love affair with scotch in particular. The outlet claimed the monarch was a big fan of Famous Grouse.

Evelyn Hickman appeared to be in good spirits as she celebrated her birthday at The Hub, a community center in Fegg Hayes.

“I’ve had a lovely day today – the turnout has been great. It’s good to know that I still have a lot of friends and people who care about me,” Evelyn concluded.
