On Tuesday, Tres Generaciones announced the launch of its 50th Anniversary Añejo, and the expression offers a nod to Don Francisco Javier Sauza’s recipe from 1973.
According to the Beam Suntory-owned brand, the recipe is rumored to be the first Añejo tequila recipe ever used. The tequila expression is bottled in a green ceramic vessel that the brand claims is a nod to the original 1973 decanter.
The 50th Anniversary Edition Añejo is made from Blue Weber Agave. The agave plants are oven-roasted for a lengthy period before being crushed by a tahona, and double distilled in a copper pot still. The liquid is then aged for fourteen months in American White Oak that Tres Generaciones charred in-house.
“The 50th Anniversary Edition represents the longstanding expertise that is unique to Tres and the three Dons who shaped tequila as we know it today,” stated Rashidi Hodari, Beam Suntory’s Managing Director of Global Tequila. “We’ll mark the brand’s 50 years by celebrating everything that the Sauza family worked so hard to accomplish, while also carrying on their legacy by championing the same spirit of perseverance in future generations.”
The 50th Anniversary Edition is available in the United States with a suggested retail price of $200 for a 750 ml bottle. The expression will be available for purchase in limited quantities.
The Tres Generaciones brand was established in 1973 and was meant to celebrate three generations of the Sauza family, known figures within the tequila world. The brand celebrates the legacies of Don Cenobio, Don Eladio and Don Francisco Javier.
In 2022, Tres Generaciones launched a Cristalino expression and added it to the portfolio of its standard Plata, Reposado and Añejo offerings.
