One of Guy Fieri’s Stolen Tequila Trucks Has Reportedly Been Recovered

Progress is reportedly being made in the investigation of Guy Fieri and Sammy Hagar’s tequila trucks that went missing last month.
On Tuesday, Hagar told Fox News that one of the two trucks — which were estimated to contain $1 million in Santo Tequila combined — has been recovered by authorities. According to the brand, the shipments went missing as they passed over the border in Laredo, Texas sometime between Nov. 9 and 13. The initial story alleged that the shipments had been illegally double-brokered between two different carriers before they were whisked away by criminals.
The trucks were said to contain 24,240 bottles of tequila. Though one of the trucks has reportedly been recovered, Hagar did not say whether or not the bottles were reclaimed as well.
“There was some kind of organization, I can’t talk too much about it, but we’re finding out who it was. It was well planned, the truck drivers… they didn’t know anything, they just got hired to pick the stuff up, they had fake cellphones and fake GPS, and then they just sent them to drop it off,” Hagar told Fox News. “We found one truck, so we’re getting somewhere, but we’ll never find the second one because it supposedly has been dispersed into the system.”
Fieri and Hagar joined forces in 2019 as the primary investors in Santo Spirits. The brand offers a variety of expressions including a Blanco, Reposado, Añejo and a 50:50 blend of tequila and mezcal dubbed “Mezquila.” The duo says that the stolen shipments contained an unreleased batch of the brand’s Extra Añejo, for which Fieri has offered a $10,000 recovery reward.
Investigators cleared up a few details of the story after news broke in November. According to Laredo Police, the missing shipments were closer to $385,000 in value than $1 million. They also say that the trucks were re-routed, not hijacked as initially reported.
This version of events lines up with what Hagar told Fox News earlier this week, specifically that the truck drivers “didn’t know anything” about the heist.
“At this preliminary phase of the investigation it is believed that at some point the trucks with the tequila cargo were re-routed to California due to alleged issues with the warehouse at the original listed destination, which is still being vetted. The Los Angeles Police Department is involved in the investigation due to the alternative location where both drivers stated the cargo was actually transported to. There are no indications that these trailers were hijacked anywhere as alleged in national media publications,” Laredo police told the Laredo Morning Times.
The case is currently being investigated by the Laredo Police Department, Los Angeles’ Cargo Criminal Apprehension Team and theft prevention network CargoNet. All have remained tight-lipped on the details throughout December.
