On Saturday, three-time Grammy Award-winning artist Megan Thee Stallion toasted her 30th birthday with the official unveiling of Chicas Divertidas Tequila.
This latest splash into the crowded celebrity-owned spirits market is slated to touch down in March in Blanco and Reposado varieties. As is often the case with self-described “premium” tequila, the packaging is on point. Each bottle features a twisted design inspired by the Angel’s Trumpet, a flower renowned throughout South America for its colorful drooping silhouette. Attached to the cork, you’ll find a golden dagger-pierced heart.

Onto the spirits themselves, both of which are bottled at 40% ABV. The Blanco is said to balance flavors of citrus, rosemary and green tea while the Reposado is “meant to be savored” with a richer profile of caramelized agave, American oak and cooking spices. Fans can now pre-order the expressions through ReserveBar at $70 and $80.
“As someone who values good vibes and great memories, I knew I wanted to create a tequila that was designed to be shared and savored with my Hotties,” Megan Thee Stallion said in a news release. “Smooth, sultry, and premium. This process has been years in the making, and I’m so proud to take this next step in my journey as an entrepreneur and launch this brand. I know the Hotties are ready, it’s time to give them a drink made by me!”
The brand is produced at NOM 1140, a distillery located in the highlands of Arandas, Jalisco. Unlike many distilleries — which can produce anywhere from a dozen to upward of a hundred brands under the same roof — NOM 1140 keeps a relatively low profile. Apart from Chicas Divertidas, the facility reportedly produces just two other labels; Tequila Cabrito and Tequila Centinela, the latter of which dates back to 1904.
According to the brand, Chicas Divertidas is crafted from single-source, 100% Blue Weber agave harvested at peak maturity. The piñas are cooked in traditional masonry ovens and distilled in premium copper stills. While the blanco is unaged, the reposado is matured for six months in ex-whiskey American white oak.
Megan’s liquor venture has been a long time in the making. Back in April, the “HISS” rapper told AdWeek that she was gearing up to launch a tequila brand sometime in the foreseeable future. Internet sleuths quickly put two and two together. Users on Reddit speculated that the brand name might be Chicas Divertidas (“Fun Girls” or “Funny Girls” in English), the same name of a VIP package for Megan’s then-upcoming tour that promised to include samples of the unreleased tequila. Lo and behold, fans were eventually proved exactly right.
Over the summer, Megan spilled a few more details during an appearance on Shannon Sharpe’s “Club Shay Shay” podcast. Though she didn’t go so far as to tease a release date, Megan confessed that she was inspired to get into the liquor game from an unlikely source within the industry.
“Beyoncé is the person who actually inspired me to get my own tequila,” Megan said. “I used to be the cognac queen. I’m still the cognac queen! But as much as I used to enjoy cognac and promoted a lot of people’s liquor brands, she was like, ‘The next time I see you, you better have your own. You need to have your own alcohol.’”
Unbeknown to fans at the time, Beyonce was putting the finishing touches on her own alcohol brand, SirDavis Rye Whisky, which launched in September. We had a chance to try Beyonce’s sherry-finished rye at release and were quite impressed with the results. Find our full review of the toasty, sweet and nutty whisky here.
Fingers crossed that Megan’s tequila can live up to that high bar.
