Global Brands, best known within the United Kingdom for its expansive range of pre-mixed cocktails, is foraying into tequila with a colorful quartet of flavors.

The company’s latest imprint is Take Tequila, targeting the UK market with a 38% ABV Blanco and three tequila-based liqueurs (pineapple, pink grapefruit and jalapeño) bottled at 34% ABV each. Decorated with an array of Huichol-influenced artwork, Global Brands says that Take is “a celebration of the kaleidoscope of Mexican culture, without resorting to tired clichés.”

“We’ve developed a brand that challenges perceptions of Tequila, with a fresh take on the category. Our new liqueurs offer a fantastic base for Margaritas, as well as great tasting shots, without the need for salt and lime,” says Matt Bulcroft, managing director at Global Brands.

Take Tequila is the latest in a trend as agave spirits set their sights across the pond.

While the US market is dominated by celebrity-backed brands and “premium” bottles, British drinkers have developed a taste for liqueurs and low-ABV alternatives. In addition to Take, the UK has introduced Mis Amigos, Tequila Rose and Neurita, flavored tequilas infused with chocolate, strawberry cream and tangerine respectively.

On the marginally boozy side, Ceder’s recently introduced the nation’s “first dedicated non-alcoholic tequila.” A few months earlier, UK-based Quarter Distillery unveiled a 24-proof botanical-infused “T/quila” distilled from imported Blue Weber agave.

Though tequila is growing faster than ever in Europe, the market is still finding its footing. The UK imported approximately 5.4 million liters of tequila in 2023 — the US, by comparison, imported over 321 million.
