Maestro Dobel Pays Homage to the Colorful Gondolas of Xochimilco With New Extra Añejo

Maestro Dobel Tequila is expanding its meticulously hand-painted Atelier collection with a new Extra Añejo.

Rested for three years in a combination of American and European oak barrels, the release is the latest in an ongoing series highlighting traditional Mexican craftwork. According to Juan Domingo Beckmann, founder of Maestro Dobel, the brand’s new Trajineras Edition is a “work of art, both inside and out.”

Last year’s Atelier release took design inspiration from alebrijes — fantastically colored wood-carved beasts associated with the state of Oaxaca. This year, Maestro Dobel is paying homage to the vivid tour boats of Mexico City.

The boats — known as trajineras — carry goods, musicians and lively parties across the Xochimilco canals, which span over 100 miles in length. Dubbed the “Venice of Mexico,” guests have flocked to the canals for decades in search of its famous floating gardens and the iconic barges that hold it all together.

The bottles reimagine the boats in red, baby blue, green, indigo and pink colorways, featuring all manner of hearts, peeking eyes and blooming flowers. The limited-edition release is now on sale for a suggested retail price of $250.

Tasting notes can be found below:

  • Color: Dark amber, bright gold and copper tones
  • Aroma: A combination of sweet scents like agave, chocolate, walnut, prune, dried fruit, butter,
pineapple, apple, cinnamon, almonds, and light tones of toasted wood
  • Flavor: A warm taste of wood, as well as agave and fruit – which leave an exceptionally smooth aftertaste
