Jose Cuervo Expands High-End Reserva de la Familia Collection With Sherry-Finished Cristalino

Tequila titan Jose Cuervo is expanding its most expensive lineup with one of the industry’s hottest trends — a Cristalino.
Originally coined in 2009, Cristalinos are created by charcoal-filtering an aged reposado or añejo, removing its dark whiskey-like tint and granting the appearance of an unaged blanco.
The brand’s latest foray, Reserva de la Familia Añejo Cristalino Organico, is aged for one year in American oak barrels before finishing in fruit-forward Pedro Ximénez sherry casks. Available soon for $149.99, the new expression comes out a heck of a lot more pricy than Cuervo’s typical $15-$30 offerings.
Reserva was first introduced in 1995, defined by a flagship three-year Extra Añejo cut with tequila reserves aged for over 30 years. In years since, the imprint has been expanded with a Blanco and Reposado, all of which come packaged inside handblown bottles topped off with a wax-stamped seal.
With its latest release, Cuervo is doubling down on the runaway success of its Cristalino portfolio popularized by 1800 Tequila, Maestro Dobel Diamante, Gran Coramino and more.
“Cristalino tequilas continue to see significant growth as tequila enthusiasts seek premium offerings with unique finishing and aging features,” said Alex Coronado, Head of Production and Master Distiller for Reserva de la Familia.
“Reserva de la Familia Añejo Cristalino Organico embodies everything that makes Cristalino tequilas so dynamic. The handcrafted production process paired with the unique finish from Pedro Ximénez Sherry casks makes for a remarkable tequila that is ideally suited for tequila aficionados seeking a luxury sipping experience.”
