Influencer-Backed Spicy Watermelon Tequila Takes Internet by Storm Ahead of January Release

Watermelon Tequila

(Brullo Tequila)

Influencer and musician HotSpanish is diving into the juicy world of tequila with a new watermelon liqueur.

HotSpanish, real name Roberto González, has amassed over 1.7 billion views on YouTube for his public pranks, trap- and reggaeton-influenced music videos and Mr. Beast-style social experiments. Naturally, popular video titles include: “Let’s Go to Chernobyl Mexico at 3AM To Hire a Clown From the Deep Web” and “I Test My Girlfriend With a Millionaire To See if She Is Unfaithful!

Like any up-and-coming influencer worth their salt, González is now venturing into the lucrative agave spirits market.

Bottled at 30% ABV — 10% below what can legally be called tequila — Barullo Spicy Sandía has all the makings of a regret-inducing party shot. Its description reads; “This captivating elixir combines the natural sweetness of watermelon with a stimulating touch of spiciness, creating a unique sensory experience that will delight your palate and transport you on a journey of vibrant flavors.”

After the announcement dropped on Saturday, Barullo Tequila rocketed to the top of Google’s trending searches in the United States. Pre-orders are now available for $299 pesos (around $17 USD) with plans to officially launch in early January.

González is the latest in a wave of social media personalities jumping on the tequila zeitgeist. In 2018, electronic DJ duo The Chainsmokers teamed up with Instagram meme-maker FuckJerry for the successful launch of JAJA Tequila. In November, trends turned toward mezcal when Real Housewive Erin Lichy collaborated with “curator of pop culture” Deuxmoi for her new health-conscious spirit brand, Mezcalum.
