Spicy Spirits: Ghost Tequila Adds Pepper-Infused Reposado to Its Portfolio

Ghost Tequila, one of the biggest names in the fast-expanding spicy spirits category, is adding to its portfolio with an aged reposado.

The new release is distilled from a mix of highlands and lowlands agave before resting for two to four months in American White Oak Pipones barrels. Like its flagship Blanco, the brand’s Reposado is finished off with a pinch of bhut jolokia peppers — better known as the ultra-spicy ghost pepper.

Fret not, Ghost Tequila doesn’t venture into outright spice challenge territory. Rather, the subtle addition of ghost peppers adds a heat and flavor complexity perfect for remixing your favorite cocktails.

“With the growing demand in the spicy category, we witnessed incredibly strong growth in Ghost Tequila’s Blanco sales last year,” explains Chris Peddy, CMO of Ghost Tequila.

“We are now thrilled to introduce a new expression, Ghost Reposado, to evolve our brand to a new premium consumer segment. The launch marks a significant milestone in our journey and the spicy category.”

Growing demand for spicy spirits has been aided by trendy cocktails like the Bloody Maria, Mezcalita and Michelada. It helps that any recipe can be turned “spicy” with the addition of a few muddled jalapeños or, in this case, a splash of fiery booze. Other twists on the concept have infused tequila with habanero peppers, serrano peppers and more.

Ghost Tequila Reposado is now available nationwide at a suggested retail price of $39.99. Production has been limited to just 6,000 9-liter cases.
