Espolòn Tequila is commemorating 25 years of brand history with its first limited-edition bottling.

Bringing the concept to life, Espolòn announced on Wednesday that it teamed up with street artist and illustrator Edgar “Saner” Flores to recreate the brand’s iconic black-and-white lithograph design. Saner is best known for his colorful large-scale murals, many of which combine Mexican iconography and graffiti aesthetics with an eye for political commentary.

Since its inception in 1998, Espolòn has been easily identified by the woodcut-inspired drawing found on each bottle, most of which feature the brand’s rooster mascot, Ramón. Inspired by the work of 19th-century artist José Guadalupe Posada, different designs recreate scenes from Mexican Independence Day, traditional marketplaces and local protest dances.

Saner’s retooled imagery features an explosive celebration decked out with an assortment of calaveras (skeleton figures), tequila barrels, candles, flowers and more.

“I’m thrilled to be a part of this celebration and honored that my art is now a part of the brand’s history. The label is inspired by the essence of Espolòn’s journey: the distinctive tequila-making process, iconic brand symbols and the celebrations and traditions of Mexico,” Saner said in a news release.

In addition to the limited-edition drop, Espolòn is collaborating with The National Association of Latino Arts and Cultures to support the Modern Maverick Artist Grant. The inaugural $10,000 award will be given to an emerging Latinx artist this year who “continues to champion unapologetic originality.”

“As we commemorate this anniversary, we continue to champion unapologetic originality and spur on creative mavericks in all that we do, always striving to keep Cirilo’s vision alive,” Campari America Vice President Andrea Sengara said. “The past 25 years have seen this brand grow into a truly global player, and we’re excited to bring this moment to life with engaging events and limited-edition launches for Cinco de Mayo and beyond.”
