Komos Tequila announced on Tuesday the launch of a reposado cristalino expression exclusively for travel retail. The expression hosts a suggested retail price of $130 and an ABV of 40%.
This release marks a more affordable offering from the brand, which released a $2,000 11-year-old extra añejo in October.
Komos Reposado Cristalino is aged six months in French oak red and white wine barrels. Komos then filtered the reposado tequila through charcoal, which the brand claims yielded a crystal-clear tequila that maintains an oaky flavor profile. Afterward, Komos aerated the tequila, yielding what it describes as a soft, smooth and rich expression.
The brand shared that it bottled the tequila in a metallic bottle made by artisans in Mexico that was designed to evoke the Mediterranean.
“Tequila Komos was created with a global mindset, designed to be enjoyed all day and night, wherever you travel,” CKBG co-founder and Co-CEO Richard Betts said in a statement. “The launch of this GTR-exclusive expression further expands our reach at a time when accessibility to ultra-premium tequila is still nuanced but international travel continues to rebound post-COVID. It allows us to reach new consumers and new demographics and bring Komos Reposado Cristalino to those who share our passion for wanderlust and revelry.”
The brand’s October release of Komos XO was a blended tequila aged in a mixture of French oak red and white wine casks, American oak bourbon and Spanish Oloroso sherry casks. The rare limited release featured a suggested retail price of $1,999.
Tasting a $2,000 tequila might be something not many of us experience in our lifetime, and because of this Komos shared the tasting notes for those of us who will have to use our imagination.
The tequila brand claimed that the palate is “provocative” and textured, with plenty of vanilla, chocolate and dried fruit flavors.
