One-Two Punch: Codigo 1530 Blends Reposado With Extra Añejo in New Cristalino Tequila

Codigo 1530 is expanding its massive, award-winning catalog with a new blended batch Cristalino tequila.

Cristalinos — charcoal-filtered renditions of an aged reposado or añejo —have handily established themselves as the latest craze to grip the agave spirit market. Invented by Don Julio in 2011, the technique has since exploded in popularity on the backs of Jose Cuervo, Gran Coramino, Maestro Dobel and other industry regulars.

From the looks of it, Codigo is looking to change up the formula. The brand’s latest expression is a mix of its 6-month Reposado and 6-year French Cognac-finished “Origen” Extra Añejo. Though blended batches aren’t particularly rare, the inclusion of a 6-year age statement within a Cristalino is virtually unheard of.

“Since we are a single NOM distillery (NOM 1616) we had the freedom and resources to create a completely unique Cristalino unlike any other on the market. We had a lot of fun testing different blends and finishes before declaring the Reposado and Extra Añejo blend as the winner,” said Federico Vaughan, Co-Founder and CEO of Código 1530.

“Our Cristalino measures up to the brand’s high standards of ensuring the essence of tequila always shines through with an authentic flavor profile and personality.”

Codigo was launched back in 2016 by Crocs CEO Ron Snyder (yes, that Crocs), Federico Vaughan and “King of Country” George Strait. Over the years, the brand has defined its image through experimentation, foraying into mezcal, wine-finished tequila, barrel-strength releases and two limited-edition bottlings with Playboy.

Codigo 1530 Cristalino Reposado is now available at retailers throughout the U.S. for $89.99.
