Clase Azul Introduces Third Mezcal, Inspired by the Deserts of San Luis Potosí

Luxury powerhouse Clase Azul Tequila is expanding its agave spirits range with a new mezcal. This time around, the brand is venturing into the historied Mexican state of San Luis Potosí.

Unlike the brand’s previous mezcal releases — distilled from Agave Cenzino and Cupreata respectively — Mezcal San Luis Potosí is distilled from Agave Salmiana, otherwise known as the “green giant” due to its 8-10 foot height and 25-year maturation period. Clase Azul says consumers can expect aromas of green chile and fruit paired with flavors of caramel, lime zest and clove.

The bottle (the main attraction in and of itself for some) pays homage to regional craftwork while incorporating a colorful hand-knit design on top.

“The decanter’s red color pays homage to the Huachichil, nomads of the desert landscapes of San Luis Potosí. Translated from the Nahuatl language of the Aztecs, their name means “heads painted red,” as they were known to adorn themselves with red dye, emulating the plumage of the finch (Haemorhous mexicanus)—a revered guardian to their tribe,” said the brand in a press release.

Of course, Clase Azul mezcal come at Clase Azul prices. Bottled at 43% ABV, the new San Luis Potosí expression is retailing for $370.
