High Bank Distillery's Midnight Cask Barrel Proof is a 5-year-old whiskey blend featuring its Whiskey War Barrel Proof and Australian tawny port wine. Bottled at 102 proof, it is available for around $64.99.
This tastes like charred toast, ripe pear, allspice, and clove. It seems sweeter than the regular strength, though I attribute that to the higher proof. There’s an impression of red cherries on the finish along with ripe pears. The burn of the alcohol is noticeable on the finish.
I think Midnight Cask Barrel Proof is absolutely fantastic. Taking what is arguably the best regular release from High Bank and making it barrel proof was not only a promising idea, it was an excellent execution.
