  • “The Juggernaut” exists in a potentially liminal space. For some folks, I could imagine this approaching “rye of the year” territory. Plenty of others might not enjoy it.

  • Juggernaut is every bit a bruiser in terms of complexity, character and a behemoth of rye spice in an accessible package that’s not hard to love.

  • The rye character is not lost, although for a moment it appears like it could be. No, that whiskey base is still there, but there is a literal spice basket weaving around your tongue as you sip, with notes of all of the aforementioned spices as well as allspice, honey, vanilla, caramel, ripe apple, and maple.

  • You’re probably getting the picture here, and while extremely bold flavors are no stranger to The Boss Hog, this year things go just a little too far, and the finished product is wildly unctuous and just too bizarre.

  • Nose:

Gingersnap cookies, black tea, chai, toffee, honey, warm vanilla icing, rich oak, tons of herbal rye spice and a final pop of tea and yuzu sweetness.

  • Taste:

Rich on the palate. Full of herbal rye spice, grassy character, orange peel, black tea, chai, vanilla, heavy oak and a hint of medicinal cherry. Packed with spice cake, tea and sweetness.

  • Finish:

Long finish. Yuzu and lychee, honey, toffee, black tea, black pepper, coriander, ginger and more oaky sweetness.

  • Overall:

Incredible but also incredibly weird — in a weirdly good way. Juggernaut is every bit a bruiser in terms of complexity, character and a behemoth of rye spice in an accessible package that’s not hard to love.

  • Score:

    92
