Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre Expand Spirits Partnership with Launch of ‘Still G.I.N’

On Tuesday, West Coast rap icons Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre unveiled Still G.I.N., a spirits venture that follows in the footsteps of their Gin & Juice canned cocktail brand that launched earlier this year.

Bottled at 42.5% ABV, the gin is said to boast citrus-forward bursts of tangerine, jasmine and coriander with an “unforgettable” aromatic finish. The gin comes inside a black honeycombed bottle helmed by Ini Archibong, an industrial designer best known for his furniture and architecture work. Archibong last collaborated with the duo on ad spot titled “Fruit Massacre” in which pineapples, watermelons and apricots were blown to smithereens and sucked into cocktail cans.

Typical advertisement stuff.

While Gin & Juice hit the market at $12.99 per 4-pack, bottles of Still G.I.N. are slated to roll out at $34.99 through Southern Glazer’s Wine and Spirits, the largest beverage distributor in the U.S.

To give credit where credit is due, the brand name is a fairly clever triple entendre. It pays homage to Snoop’s 1993 song “Gin and Juice,” Dr. Dre’s 1999 hit “Still D.R.E.” and the fact that gin is produced inside a still.

“This is not a liquor that we’re just putting our name on,” Dr. Dre said in a news release. “It’s just like we did with Beats headphones. Everything is us from the ground up: the gin, the flavor, the packaging… Everything had to be perfect. Snoop said it best: we’re better together – it’s always magical. It’s incredible to know that you’ve got something amazing that you feel is gonna really work. From the look to the taste, it’s all there.”

For Snoop, it’s the latest in a string of booze ventures taking aim at just about every angle the industry has to offer.

The “Doggystyle” rapper teamed up with 19 Crimes Wine over the summer for the launch of a Cali Cocktails range available in Long Beach Lemonade and Smokin’ Strawberry Margarita flavors. Before that, the artist worked with the winery on bottlings including Snoop Cali Red, Cali Rosé and Cali Blanc, all of which feature his portrait front and center.

He’s also backed the strawberry-flavored Indoggo Gin and inked endorsement deals for both Happy Dad Hard Seltzer and St. Ides Beer. Funnily enough, Snoop once remarked on air that he doesn’t drink any of his own alcohol brands.

We’ll give him the benefit of the doubt and imagine that Still G.I.N. is the sole exception.

“Every day in the studio when Dre and I were trying to make the dopest music, we were drinking gin and just having fun,” Snoop Dogg added. “We’ve been a part of the evolution of this gin – from the creation of the flavor, to the percentage of alcohol that’s in it – and it’s just so good! Dre’s a perfectionist: he wants to make sure it’s not just good, but great. Together, we ain’t gonna do nothing regular!”
