  • The whisky holds its proof well and the finish smolders with sweet smoke.

  • The smoke current is certainly a potent one, but far from domineering.

  • A lovely release to round out this years collection of Octomore, this shows how much natural sweetness the wood brings and helps dial back the peat a touch. Delicious,

  • Octomore 15.3 brings a lot of flavors to unpack, such that no two folks will experience it exactly the same way. But one thing I feel for certain: though it joins a rare company in ticking over 300 PPM, Octomore 15.3 is much more than a quantified curiosity.

  • At full proof it’s a bruiser, but water curiously brings out more of the whisky’s earthier tones. More airtime helps the nuttier aspects of the whisky to show themselves more clearly, the citrus meandering more toward slightly bitter grapefruit peel notes, backed up by plenty of salty sea spray.

  • Nose:

Heavy minerality, plum and vanilla bean, butterscotch, toffee and some caramels. Light brûlée sweetness, tons of caramel and sweet oak.

  • Taste:

Pleasant richness, the most syrupy of the collection this year with lots of tannin, sweet caramel, toffee and lovely meaty funk.

  • Finish:

Long finish, heavy bbq, caramels, ash and burning wood mixed with caramelized sugar, barrel char and a hint of pear.

  • Overall:

A lovely release to round out this years collection of Octomore, this shows how much natural sweetness the wood brings and helps dial back the peat a touch. Delicious.
