Slane Irish Whiskey is a blend of Irish single malt and grain whiskey, sourced from undisclosed distilleries. The whiskey is aged for at least three years using a triple-cask process, including virgin oak, ex-sherry and seasoned barrels from Brown-Forman. It is bottled at 80 proof and retails for about $30.
While the nose definitely screams "Irish Whiskey!", the palate is richer and more robust showing notes of burnt caramel, honey, pot-still spices and bay leaf.
On the palate, that morphs into a vanilla, clove-accented spicy kind of sweetness. The toffee becomes butterscotch. But it’s the grain and oak that stand out most. I found the finish light, starting off the butterscotch and fading fast.
Definitely an intriguing bottle. Slane Irish Whiskey is identifiably Irish, but also different enough to set itself apart. For around $30, I think this is a steal.
