Never Say Die Bourbon is a straight bourbon from N.S.D. Spirits, sourced from an undisclosed Kentucky distillery. It is bottled at 95 proof and has a mashbill of 75% corn, 21% rye and 4% malted barley. Launched in the U.K. in September 2022 and in the U.S. in November 2023, it ages for six years in Kentucky and one year in England after a two-month ocean journey. It has a suggested retail price of $69.95. The brand pays homage to a racehorse named Never Say Die, born on co-founder Pat Madden's family farm, which was the first American-born horse to win the Derby at Epsom in 1954.

  • If this all feels like a gimmick to you, that’s totally understandable—some people won’t drink Jefferson’s for the same reason. But keep an open mind and give this whiskey a try, it’s not going to change your life but it is a solid home bar sipper.

  • Nose:

Sweet, full and inviting on the nose: orange marmalade, cinnamon, gooey butter cake, brown sugar, hazelnut, lemon curd.

  • Taste:

Silky mouthfeel, with a blast of cocoa powder surrounded by lots of fruity notes — grape, Maraschino cherry and kiwi — plus soft oak and cinnamon.

  • Finish:

Juicy Fruit gum, orange pith, vanilla and a bit of oak.

  • Overall:

Whether you feel the whole voyage to another country thing is a gimmick or something you take seriously as having a real impact on the whiskey, there is no denying this is a fruity, pleasant bourbon. It's not groundbreaking, but it's enjoyable and easy to sip. No complaints sipping this neat, and I could see it working really nicely in summer whiskey cocktails.
