Released by the Denver, Colorado-based American single malt distillery, Stranahan's, this is 2023's release in the brand's annual Diamond Peak series. Outside of the rare Snowflake release, Diamond Peak is essentially the cream of the crop that is the Stranahan's portfolio. 2023's Diamond Peak is a blend of 5-to-8-year-old single malt whiskey finished for more than two years in casks that previously held extra añejo tequila from José Cuervo's Reserva de Familia. Stranahan's is using its resources here, as it and Cuervo share a parent company (Proximo).

Complex and fruity on the nose. Agave influence blends nicely with malty goodness. Notes of blueberry, blackberry, oak, cherry, saline, vanilla, peaches and cream and nectarine come through.
The palate is sweet, bright and delicious, with big notes of peach, mango, blackberry, satisfying oak, plenty of malt, salted caramel and orange sherbet.
A long finish kicks off with saline, sugar cookies and oak, and finally a heavy dose of agave, accompanied by blueberry pie.
Stranahan's Diamond Peak series continues to impress, and 2023's batch is no exception. This single malt is a delight and the most well-done tequila-finished whiskey I've tasted yet.
