The taste is spicy and well-rounded with baking spices, tree fruits, honey, caramel, and a hint of figs. The finish is long with gently fading spices. Excellent!
There’s an appealing hint of mustiness and scents of bitter chocolate, cherry, dried herbs, licorice, and figs. A spiced palate delivers dark fruits, burnt marshmallow, espresso, and oak char. It also finishes with a char note, along with bitter chocolate, raisins, and prunes.
It’s actually quite charming in the end, and after the wood wears away a bit (time in glass is good for this, as is water) a more typical essence of rye is revealed. You’ll need to fight for it, though.
